We are always looking for more volunteers to serve our Board of Directors and our many committees!
Board of Directors
POAC NoVA’s Board of Directors meets virtually one evening per month. Each Board member is responsible for chairing one of the below committees and collaborating on member meetings and social events. Most work can be done remotely.

Autism Awareness Committee
Seeks to provide increased awareness and appreciation of autism for the general population and promote autism safety and awareness knowledge for first providers and other professionals who are more likely to interact with individuals with autism in stressful situations.
Business Issues Committee
Ensures that POAC-NoVA follows laws and business practices guiding operations of a non-profit organization in Virginia, including filing taxes, safeguarding assets, and reviewing organizational bylaws on an annual basis.
Communications & Social Media Committee
Responsible for maintaining POAC-NoVA’s listserv of over 1500 members, website, and social media pages. Tasks include managing membership and settings for POAC’s Google Group, moderating the anonymous post inbox, posting events to the website and social media, sharing autism and disability-related news and other local events on social media, responding to inquiries received via Messenger, and updating the many resources and other information on our website using WordPress.
Family Support Group Committee
Hosts monthly support group meetings for caregivers. Provides opportunities to exchange ideas, share resources, and inform on topics of interest to our community.
Fundraising & Grants Committee
Works to plan and coordinate fundraising opportunities (restaurant nights), apply for grants and accept funding from individuals and organizations interested in donating funds to POAC-NoVA. Promotes opportunities for members to participate in CFC, google and FB personal fundraisers or make personal donations.
School Autism Program Liaison & Legislative Outreach Committee
Meets with Fairfax County Public School Office of Special Education Instruction and Procedural Support to discuss issues of importance to members with students in FCPS.
If you are interested in representing your school jurisdiction, POAC-NoVA is looking for volunteers to meet with other school districts in the area.
